For most of the year, Beijing doesn’t allow fireworks. That’s because the people of China don’t go lightly with their explosives. On Chinese New Year, Beijingers are unleashed, and for two weeks, there is no sleeping. The entire city sounds like a war-zone as a blitzkrieg of fireworks and smoke fill the streets. So, to bring in the Year of the Horse, I enlisted my friends to make our own battle reenactments, using only the streets’ already-occurring explosions.
